Questions restaurants actually ask

If your question is not here, write to us. The answer usually ends up on this page.

How long does it take to get my stamp?

You receive a digital proof of the exact machined face within one business day of ordering. Once you approve it, machining and dispatch take 3 to 5 working days, plus delivery. This dispatch window is provisional until a full production run has been timed. We would rather publish a range we can keep than a number that sounds better.

What file do I need to send for my logo?

Anything you have. A vector file (SVG, AI, PDF, EPS) is ideal, but a PNG, a JPG, or a phone photograph of a printed menu all work. We redraw the logo into a machinable outline at no extra cost, and you approve the result before anything is cut.

Can I choose brass for a stamp I'll use on food?

No. Standard free-machining brass contains between 1.6% and 3.5% lead depending on the grade, and lead has no safe intake level, so we do not supply brass for food contact under any circumstances. Food stamps are machined from EN 602 aluminium. If you need one stamp for both food and wood, take the aluminium one: it marks hardwood perfectly well.

Is there a heater or a cable?

No. It is one solid piece of metal. You heat it on your grill plate, with a torch, or in an oven, with the equipment a kitchen already has. There is no element, no thermostat and no cable, which means there is nothing in it that can fail. The trade-off is honest: an electric iron holds a steadier temperature across a long production run, and if that is what you need, buy one of those instead.

Can I return it if I change my mind?

A stamp cut from your logo is a personalised good, and under Article 16(c) of the EU Consumer Rights Directive the 14-day withdrawal right does not apply to goods made to a consumer's specification. That is why nothing is manufactured until you approve the proof. The proof is where you change your mind, at no cost, with a full refund. Once you approve it, the order cannot be cancelled or returned. Manufacturing defects are remade free of charge.

How do I pay, and can I pay on delivery?

By card, at the time of ordering. We do not offer cash on delivery. Every order is prepaid, but nothing is manufactured until you approve the proof, and if the proof is not right we refund in full before any metal is cut. In practice that is safer for you than paying on delivery, because you see exactly what you are getting while the money is still refundable.

Can I get a company invoice with my VAT number?

Yes. Add your VAT number or EIK on the order form and it goes on the invoice, which Stripe emails you with the order reference on it. For VAT-registered businesses in other EU member states the reverse-charge mechanism applies, so we charge no VAT and you account for it in your own return.

Does it work on ice, clay or ceramics?

Yes. Clay and ceramics take a brass stamp pressed cold into leather-hard clay before firing. The same stamp marks soap and wax. Ice takes an aluminium stamp at room temperature or gently warmed; the metal melts the design in, so a branded ice block for a cocktail bar needs no flame at all. Tell us in the order notes what you will be marking and how large, and the proof will show the size that suits it. If the same stamp will ever meet food, take the aluminium one.

How long will the stamp last?

Indefinitely, if you do not overheat it. There is nothing to wear out: no coating to flake and no electronics to fail. The one thing that will ruin it is heating aluminium until it glows, which softens the metal and rounds off the face. Brief contact with a hot grill plate or a short pass with a torch is all a bun needs.
